To the reader:

I am proud to present to our community this report on the progress of the 2004 Apple At Work Bond Program. That name is appropriate. The 'Apple' - AISD - is hard at work building new schools and expanding and renovating existing campuses to meet the enrollment and learning needs of a new century.

Why do facilities matter? The answer is "Because education matters!" Students in overcrowded schools cannot learn to their fullest potential. School facilities that are antiquated cannot prepare young people for the challenges of the future.

This is not an acceptable situation in the Austin School District! We believe with strong conviction that every child can learn ... that every child can achieve. But we have to do our part and create facilities that support teaching and learning at every level. That is what the 2004 Apple At Work Bond Program is all about.

Austin voters understood the non-productiveness that overcrowding and outdated facilities foster. They knew that Austin's boys and girls deserve facilities that are worthy of their teachers' dedication and expertise. They believed that every child deserves a school that has enough space and adequate facilities to learn ... and that every teacher has the same to teach.

AISD and the citizens of Austin are united in our commitment to education - and to all that entails ... including building new schools where they are needed and updating our existing campuses. I am proud of that partnership, and grateful to this community!
