Elementary:
Campuses may not allow food or beverages to be provided to students at any time during the school day. Including using food as a reward, unless documented in a students IEP. Campuses are not allowed to sell food and/or beverages as a fund-raiser during the school day unless it's during one of the three exempted days allowed under the Texas School Nutrition Policy.
Middle School:
Campuses may not allow food or beverages to be provided to students anywhere on campus during meal serving times. Campuses are not allowed to sell food and/or beverages as a ' fund-raiser during the school day unless it's during one of the three exempted days allowed under the Texas School Nutrition Policy. Vending machines must be turned off during meal times.
High School:
Campuses may not allow food or beverages to be provided to students during meal times where meals are served or consumed. Campuses are not allowed to sell food and/or beverages as a fund-raiser during the school day unless it's during one of the three exempted days allowed under the Texas School Nutrition Policy. Vending machines located in areas where reimbursable meals are served and/or consumed, must be turned off during meal periods.
Foods of Minimal Nutritional Value (FMNV's) and Candy
Elementary, Middle, and High School:
Campuses may not serve or provide access for students to FMNV and all other forms of candyat any time anywhere on school premises until the end of the last scheduled class.
Such foods and beverages may not be sold or given away to students on school premises by school administrators or staff (principals, coaches, teachers, etc...), student or student groups, parents or parent groups, guest speakers or any other person, company or organization. For exemptions and a listing of foods and beverages restricted by the FMNV policy, see section VI of the Texas Public School Nutrition Policy.
All campuses:
Campuses may choose 3 events in which students may participate in a pizza party, popcorn party, food fund-raiser, track and field, etc.... where food/beverages are provided. Individual teachers many not have pizza parties, food-fundraisers, etc... FMNV's. may not be served or made available at any time. These three exempted events may not be held in the cafeteria or areas where meals are consumed during meal times and may not prohibit students' access to school meals.
Students may consume any food or beverage item that is provided by his/her parent/guardian.
Fund-Raising and Vending Machines:
All campuses ma not sell food or beverages for any fund-raising activity during the school day, except during one of the three exemption days.
These food sales may not be held in the cafeteria or areas where meals are consumed during meal times and may not prohibit students access to school meals.
Parents may bring items to celebrate their child's birthday; however, they cannot be provided to students in the cafeteria during meal serving times.
A campus may develop additional guidelines concerning birthday celebrations, such as number of celebrations per month and certain time to celebrate, so as not to interfere with instructional time.
Campuses may be more restrictive than the Texas Public School Nutrition Policy
Elementary:
Campuses may not allow food or beverages to be provided to students at any time during the school day, with the exception of a healthy snack.
Campuses many not use food as a reward, unless documented in a students IEP.
Middle School:
Campuses may not allow food or beverages to be provided to students anywhere on campus 30 minutes before to 30 minutes after meal serving times.
Vending machines must be turned off during meal times.
High School:
Campuses may not allow food or beverages to be provided to students during meal times where meals are served or consumed.
Vending machines located in areas where reimbursable meals are served and/or consumed, must be turned off during meal periods.
Middle School and High School Vending Guidelines
Vending machines in middle school and high school will only be stocked with healthy and healthier items. All FMNV's and candy (including chocolate and pastry items) are prohibited from any vending machines on any AISD campus. Vending machines will only be stocked with items that are "healthiest and healthier" on the Accent Foods vending product list.
Food in the Classroom for Instructional Purposes:
Food should not be used for instructional purposes, unless the food is needed for teaching students about nutrition or foods or different cultures.
The foods may not be FMNV's or candy at any time (including chocolate).
The food given during a classroom lesson is to be for a taste only and not be in the place of a meal provided during the student's breakfast or lunch period.

Compliance and Monitoring:
The AISD Coordinator of Health Services will monitor campuses compliance with nutrition policy. The three exempted days must be identified and submitted to the Coordinator annually through the Campus Deadline Matrix.
The Texas Department of Agriculture will aggressively enforce the Texas Public School Nutrition Policy to ensure compliance.
When violations are noted, TDA will disallow all meal reimbursement for the week when the violation occurred and require the school to reimburse the food service account for the lost reimbursement.
TDA compliance monitors will interview school staff and collect any evidence that is needed to determine the severity and longevity of the violation.
The campus will be required to document a corrective action plan and will be monitored to ensure continued compliance.
