At the Dec. 12 meeting, the Board voted to approve five recommendations, including addressing north central overcrowding.
Below is a simple explanation of the impact to Hart Elementary School:
- Pre-kindergarten students from Hart Elementary School will be assigned to the new pre-kindergarden center at Dobie Middle School
The district is dedicated to providing families with timely and relevant updates about the IDEA roll-out. As more information becomes available, parents will be notified and this site updated. For more information please view answers to our frequently asked questions (Spanish).
Why is the district making these changes?
AISD is committed to providing a quality education for all students in a healthy and safe environment. At this time, there are significant deficiencies in seating capacity for students in north central elementary schools and a surplus of seats in north central middle schools. By addressing overcrowding issues, the district will be better able to support current and future students.
Who will be assigned to the new pre-kindergarten center at Dobie?
Beginning in 2012-13, pre-kindergarten students who would have attended Graham and Hart elementary schools will attend the pre-kindergarten Center at Dobie.
Will pre-kindergarten students interact with the older kids on campus?
The safety and care of our pre-kindergarten students is a top priority for AISD, therefore there will be little to no interaction between pre-kindergarten students and middle school students.
At Dobie, all services (classroom, bathroom, lunchrooms, gym, etc.) for pre-kindergarten students will be separate from the main school. Pre-kindergarten students also will have a different schedule than students attending the middle school at Dobie.
Will transportation be provided for students who have been reassigned to Dobie?
The district will provide shuttle buses to transport students from their home schools to their new location in the morning, and back to their home schools in the afternoon. Students who reside more than two miles from their home school will continue to receive transportation services to and from their home schools.
Parents can also transport students directly to their new assignment school.
What measures are being taken to ensure the safety of pre-kindergarten students taking the shuttle?
Bus monitors are provided on all pre-kindergarten shuttles. Additional staff will help pre-kindergarten students getting on and off the pre-kindergarten shuttles.
