At the Dec. 12 meeting, the Board voted to approve five recommendations, including addressing north central overcrowding.
Below is a simple explanation of the impact to Barrington Elementary School:
- Move 6th grade students at Barrington Elementary School to Webb MS.
- Reassign a portion of Barrington ES attendance zone to the new pre-kindergarten through 8th grade model at Webb.
- Reassign remaining Barrington pre-K to Reilly Elementary School.
The district is dedicated to providing families with timely and relevant updates about the IDEA roll-out. As more information becomes available, parents will be notified and this site updated. For more information please view answers to our frequently asked questions (Spanish).
Why is the district making these changes?
AISD is committed to providing a quality education for all students in a healthy and safe environment. At this time, there are significant deficiencies in seating capacity for students in north central elementary schools and a surplus of seats in north central middle schools. By addressing overcrowding issues, the district will be better able to support current and future students.
What is the impact to Barrington Elementary School?
Beginning in 2012-13, Barrington will no longer offer pre-kindergarten or 6th grades. Students scheduled to enter 6th grade will attend Webb Middle School.
Any potential pre-kindergarten students, as well as kindergarten and 1st grade students from the Barrington southeast attendance area # 175 (bounded by E. Walnut Dr. on the north, IH-35 on the east, E. Anderson Lane on the south side and Georgian Drive on the west) will attend the new Primary Center at Webb Middle School, while 2nd through 5th grade students will remain at Barrington.

The district is considering a potential plan to phase-in the remaining Barrington students in this attendance area to Webb by adding a grade level per year. More information to come.
Is there a schedule of upcoming meetings?
The administration is working closely with north central school principals to schedule parent and community meetings.
Parents are invited to attend the schools’ CAC and PTA meetings to ask questions and learn more about the changes designed to relieve overcrowding in north central Austin.
