This is a preliminary, potential AAFR that is under consideration for potential action at the December 17, 2012 regular Board meeting. To facilitate the involvement of stakeholders, AISD staff members have developed a detailed community engagement plan that targets various community service organizations and specific AISD communities that may be impacted by the potential AAFR. The Administration will continue to vet the potential AAFR with parents, community members, and staff. Continue to visit this site for up to date information about this proposal.
AAFR: Career and Technical Education
- Determine facilities expansion needs for Career and Technical Education in order to provide equitable access to programming in all regions of the district.
- Develop and vet viable scenarios to determine a feasible strategy. Based on preliminary estimates, the scenarios brought forward are anticipated to require significant capital investment.

Projected Opening: | Fall 2014 |
Students: | Grades 9-12 |
Admission: | Application process for admittance:
|
Enrollment Projection: | 5,000 students |
Scenario 2

Facility: | Current school(s) or facilities |
Projected Opening: | Fall 2014 |
Students: | Grades 9-12 |
Admission: | Application process for admittance:

Magnet school models include:
- School-Wide Magnets—provide a specialized program that is added to the school's regular curriculum. Every student in the school receives instruction in the specialty area taught by teachers qualified in that area.
- Dedicated Magnets— provide a unique curriculum and single educational focus for all students attending the school. Every student in a dedicated magnet is a transfer student since this type of school has no attendance zone.
- School-Within-A-School Magnet—provides instruction in a specialized area to a specific group of students in an existing school. Although these students meet separately for the specialty classes, they may join with the rest of the student body for studies not related to the area of specialization.
A combination of the School-Within-A-School and Dedicated Magnets is recommended.
Examples of possible magnet programs of study:
- Agriscience Magnet Program - Agribusiness Systems, Animal Systems, Environmental Service Systems, Food Products & Processing Systems, Plant Systems, Power, Structural & Technical Systems, Natural Resources Systems and Biotechnology.
