Superintendent Carstarphen worked with the Board of Trustees and affected communities to initiate the formulation of a plan for the future of Eastside Memorial High School at the Johnston Campus. Click here to see the approved timeline. Part of this process was the approval of an external partnering entity to lead school improvement at Eastside Memorial. A Request for Proposals (RFP) to serve as the external partnering entity was issued, and the district reviewed the proposals that were submitted in response to the RFP.

During the Spring of 2013, AISD and the Texas Education Agency worked together to institute supports at Eastside Memorial that will continue to strengthen academic achievment and college and career readiness. This includes engaging Talent Development Secondary from Johns Hopkins University to support Eastside over the next several years as an academic partner.

How did Eastside Memorial perform in 2012-13?

A new set of accountability standards was introduced in 2013, with two categories: met standard and needs improvement. The standards measured three academic areas and graduation rate (an average of your current year and past year’s 4-year graduation rate). Eastside met standard in all three academic areas, but was below standard in its graduation rate. While the 2013 graduation rate was above standard, the 2011 rate was far enough below to bring the average to below standard. Eastside was therefore rated as “needs improvment.”
