The Department of Educational Support Services is responsible for providing leadership and coordination among all student educational support services. These areas include: Athletics; School, Family & Community Education; Student Services/Records; ACCESS; Positive Behavior Support; Project HELP; Dropout Prevention & Truancy; Student Discipline; Diversity and Intercultural Relations; Guidance and Counseling; Student Intervention; and School to Community Liaisons ![]() Athletics Department - 414-1050 The Office of Athletics is responsible for all UIL athletic events for grades 7 - 12 occurring in the Austin Independent School District. These responsibilities include: scheduling and coordinating all athletic events; maintaining central athletic facilities, as well as fields at the secondary campuses; assisting principals in the hiring of coaches, coordinating transportation to athletic events, overseeing and coordinating athletic trainers, cheerleading and Special Olympics. The Office works in conjunction with the University Interscholastic League and the 4A and 5A Executive Committee in following and interpreting UIL and district rules and regulations. Department of School, Family and Community Education - 414-0113 The Department of School, Family and Community Education is responsible for development and coordination of a range of support services and programs including after school enrichment and child care programs; virtual courses for high school students; Summer High School; tutoring adult fee-based and basic education ABE/GED/ESL; native American education services; teen-parenting services; refugee family outreach services; and coordination of facility use by the community; diploma for veterans; and parent involvement and 4th grade African-American Essay Contest. Department of Student Services and Records - 414-4142 The Department of Student Services/Records provides assistance to schools and the community on matters related to student assignment, enrollment and attendance necessary to comply with state and local regulation, policy and procedures. In addition to providing oversight for the enrollment/registration/attendance process, the office manages student transfers, guardianships and special assignments (NCLB, Diversity Choice, Public Education Grant transfers, magnet transfers and other special program assignments). The Department of Student Services/Records provides six weeks membership and attendance reports as well as a variety of other reports containing student data and information. It annually provides information to principals and other managers regarding records retention and destruction. It provides annual school projections and assists with the boundary change process. It also serves as the district's contact with Travis County Elections and manages all pre- and post-election matters related to trustee and bond elections. Austin Community Collaboration to Enhance Student Success (ACCESS) Program - 414-0304 The Office of ACCESS is responsible for community led collaboration of public and nonprofit agencies working together to address the emotional, behavioral and social needs of students. Traditionally, a large number of community organizations have supported student learning in AISD. With the receipt of four year of federal funding through the Safe Schools/Healthy Students Grant, ACCESS will enhance the way social services are delivered on campuses by creating a youth mapping program with geographic information to locate, target and serve the students experiencing the greatness needs. ACCESS will also increase the level of resources available to students and their families by implementing a number of innovative prevention and treatment programs that will promote and encourage safe and positive learning environments. These efforts will culminate in a national model of data and resource sharing that provides an unprecedented technological opportunity for practitioners to assess their individual student needs and to also have immediate access to information about appropriate community resource. The ACCESS program includes eighteen AISD staff and ten contracts with community providers. Special Programs
Office of Project HELP (Homeless Ed and Learning Program) - 414-3690 Provides assistance for students in temporary living situations (collaborates with other AISD departments, local service providers and private partners to ensure identification and wraparound services). Office of Attendance, Truancy and Dropout Prevention and Recovery - 414-0201 The Office of Attendance, Truancy and Dropout Prevention and Recovery is responsible for training, guiding and technical assistance on a variety of outreach services to district schools. Daily efforts are designed to maintain and return students to their schools to complete their course of study. Services
Office of Student Discipline - 414-2182 The Office of Student Discipline is responsible for providing guidance and technical assistance on discipline law, district policies, State regulations and processes, documentation and data collection. Twelve week and yearly reports are provided to campuses and district officials to assess student and campus needs as they relate to student management and school climate. Office of Diversity and Intercultural Relations - 414-0884 The Office of Diversity and Intercultural Relations is responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of policies, procedures and programs that sustain an inclusive and equitable school community. The office supports and manages the activities of parent, student, faculty and staff groups whose purposes and goals are related to diversity issues. All efforts will ensure that all children benefit from the daily rigor of a sustained focus on the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in future schooling and, ultimately, to participate actively in a diverse society. Office of Guidance and Counseling - 414-0173 The Office of Guidance and Counseling is responsible for implementing a comprehensive guidance and counseling program and services in grades PK-12 that promotes student success through a focus on academic achievement, prevention and intervention, advocacy and social/emotional and career development to meet the diverse needs of students and community of AISD. The guidance and counseling approach is developmental in scope that provides students with an opportunity to learn more about themselves and others in advance of problem moments in their lives. Office of Student Intervention - 414-0177 Provides information about AISD Bully, Sexual Harassment and Dating Violence Policy, Drug Court, Community Partners for Children and over 36 Austin community social and mental health agencies that collaborate with AISD.
