Part 4: AISD Programs & Resources - The Role of Impact Teams

Impact Teams deal primarily with academics, behavior, and attendance

  • They seek interventions to help every student feel and be successful in learning when routine classroom/school wide interventions have not been effective.
  • If a student has excessive absences they should be referred to Impact.
  • Attendance Clerks should also attend Impact teams - at a minimum, clerk should provide the team a printout with attendance information

Students experiencing difficulty in the general education classroom should be considered for all support services available to all students, such as tutorials, remedial, compensatory, and other services.

  • If the student continues to experience difficulty in the general education classroom after the provision of classroom-based interventions, district personnel must refer the student to the campus Impact Team.
  • After all general education Impact strategies have been exhausted, contact the parents and discuss a possible referral for special education evaluation. (All pre-referral intervention strategies should be implemented and documented, each having been given sufficient time and attention to be found clearly successful or not.

The E-Impact system launched at the end of September.

  • It allows you to keep all student documentation via computer and can archive information about a student.
  • E-Impact can also be used from home through Access AISD located at: https://access.austinisd.org/.

(Sample Impact Referral Form, Action Plan, and Resources Sheet, can be found at the end of this section)

*Special Education - may be invited for consultation regarding effective behavior interventions/strategies. However, as part of the IMPACT Team process, special education service providers MAY NOT:

  • Make pre-evaluation predictions about whether a student may qualify
  • Sign off or give an opinion as to whether the associate superintendent should approve a referral
  • Attend all IMPACT Team meetings (due to scheduled services, evaluation, ARD schedule, and number of campuses served)

(Sample Request to Initiate Special Ed Referral form can be found at the end of this section)
