Student Welfare - Student Support Services (FFC Local)

Impact Teams

All campuses shall have an operational Impact Team led by an assistant principal or principal. The purpose of the Impact Team shall be to review student performance issues and provide and monitor interventions for students experiencing attendance, academic, and/or behavior challenges not effectively addressed with classroom teacher interventions. Impact Teams shall provide the foundation for student support service initiatives and shall be used prior to referral for additional assessment to determine eligibility for services such as special education. Impact Teams shall develop student intervention actions, monitor intervention effectiveness, and document student progress.

Operation

Impact Teams shall establish meeting dates and times at the beginning of each school year and shall meet at least every two weeks. Impact Teams shall follow a protocol designed to identify steps taken by campus personnel to ensure students receive appropriate interventions. The interventions shall address academic, attendance and/or behavior concerns within a general education setting prior to considering referrals for special education services.

Composition

The core team shall consist of the following personnel as appropriate:

  1. Assistant principal or principal (lead)
  2. Parent or guardian
  3. School Community Liaison (SCL)
  4. Communities In Schools representative
  5. Nurse
  6. School Resource Officer (SRO)
  7. Dropout Prevention Specialist
  8. Parent Support Specialist
  9. Teachers (regular and/or special education)
  10. Alternative Education Placement (ALC) Transition designee
  11. Counselors

Impact Referral Sources and Protocol

Campus staff, District staff, parents, students, law enforcement, and other appropriate stakeholders may make a referral to a campus Impact Team leader.

Prior to submitting an impact referral, teachers shall complete the following items:

  1. Documentation of classroom strategies indicating the effectiveness of the interventions; and
  2. Documentation of results of parent conference.

Academic and behavioral observation data shall be submitted when applicable. The Impact Team shall use the documentation submitted to develop action plans for referred students.

Monitoring

Principals shall ensure that Impact Team members are identified and that campus staff members are informed of the Impact Team process. Principals shall also ensure that the Impact Team meets at least every two weeks and that the effectiveness of the Impact Team is reviewed regularly.

Evaluation

The principal shall submit a mid-year and end-of-year evaluation to the office of Dropout Prevention.
