Parent Success Committees

Parent Success Committees should be comprised of the following:

• Dropout specialist
• Parent Support Specialist
• Attendance Clerk and/or
• Social Worker (i.e. CIS representative, etc.)

Committees should meet weekly or bi-monthly to implement programs that emphasize the importance of daily attendance and rewards for students who maintain perfect attendance.

Committee members will also develop collaboration plan for implementing activities and incentives that will increase parent involvement including:

• Special parent evenings with an incentive for students to get their parents to attend
• Parent focus groups with specials guest speakers, community organizations
• Informational workshops about truancy, school resources, and drug awareness
• Develop a newsletter with updated truancy information and thanking parents for their efforts

Student Success Committees:

Committee leader should select a variety of students, not all students should have attendance issues.

Students on this committee will work with the committee leader to come up with the incentives they think fit the campus students and needs in the best way.

Some suggested incentives include:

• Free cafeteria breakfast tacos (once a week)
• Pizza or Ice Cream Party (for class with best overall attendance)
• Coupons for school items or fast food restaurant discounts
• Music in cafeteria (monthly incentive)
• Final Exam Exemptions (may not be possible)
• Prime parking spot on Fridays (weekly incentive for perfect attendance)
• Perfect attendance assemblies, dances, free passes to athletic events, discounts on yearbooks, prom tickets, etc.
• Advisory or grade level competitions for pizza/ice cream parties.
• Opportunity to have lunch with teacher of choice for 1 month of perfect attendance
• Movie tickets given out monthly
