According to the US Department of Education:

• Students usually drop out between the ages of 15 - 17 (depending on district compulsory education requirements).

• They also tend to dropout out at critical transition points such as the transition from middle to high school.

• The review of research on transition programs also finds that students are less likely to drop out of high school if they participate in programs that help them transition from middle school (Mizelle, 1999).
