The Process for Hiring New AVID Tutors

The safety and success of our students is the major focus of hiring qualified AVID tutors. The offices of Student Support Services and Classified Human Resources have approved this process. Stpes in this process cannot be skipped. Campuses coordinators cannot offer positions to the applicants; they recommend the applicants to HR. New employees cannot report to work until they have gone through the AISD classified hiring process.

Step 1: Candidates who want to apply for a position as an AVID tutor, should go the AISD Website to review the list of AVID campuses for the school that best fits their availability. Upon choosing a school, complete the Classified Application on-line at http://www.austinisd.org/inside/hr/classified.phtml.
Step 2: SCHEDULING AN INTERVIEW - The applicant should contact the AVID Campus Coordinator to schedule an interview. The principal or designee may verify the applicant's clearance to interview by checking Winocular. If the applicant's on-line application appear an interview can be scheduled. If the application does not appear he/she will need to contact Classified HR at (512) 414-1412.
Step 3: INTERVIEW - During the interview, the applicant should be informed of the following:
  • $10 an hour with a maximum of 14,5 hours per week
  • 16 hours of mandatory training is required. Training has to be completed before the end of the semester or they will not be allowed to work during the following semester
  • The AVID tutor's pay begins on the hire date as listed on the Recommendation for Hire form submitted by the campus
  • Paychecks for the tutors will not be delivered to the campus. The tutors can collect their paychecks by either:
    1. Setting up Direct Deposit
    2. Picking it up in Room 205 at the Baker Center (3908 Avenue B)
    3. Contacting Nichelle Williams (414-0318) in the AVID Office to have check sent in US mail.
Step 4: HIRING - If the applicant is suitable for the position, then the AVID Campus principal or designee will send the Recommendation for Hire to HR to: Office of Classified Personel, attn: Sofia Garcia
Step 5: ACCEPTANCE OF THE POSITION - Applicants should not contact Human Resources for the status of their application. A designee from HR will contact the applicant.
Step 6: NOTIFICATION - The principal will receive the notification that the tutor has been offered and accepted the position, as with any other employee hire of AISD

Only work-study candidates should contact Baker Center for hire.

The Process for Hiring RETURNING AVID Tutors

The safety and success of our students is the major focus of hiring qualified AVID tutors. The offices of STudent Support Services and Classified Human Resources have approved this process.

Step 1: The AVID Campus Coordinator contacts Classified HR with the names of the tutors that were on their campus at the end of the previous school year.
Step 2: HR will verify if the tutors are still eligible for employment of the current school year.
Step 3: HIRING - If the tutors are still eligible, the AVID Campus principal or designee will send the Recommendation for Hire with the new hire date to HR: Office of Classified Personnel, attn: Diana Silva fax number 414-5899. If the tutor is not eligible, they will need to proceed as if they are a new hire to the district.
Step 4: ACCEPTANCE OF THE POSITION - A designee from HR will contact the applicant. The AVID tutor may not start work until he/she has completed all personnel paperwork in HR.
Step 5: NOTIFICATION - The principal will receive the notification that the tutor has been offered and accepted the position.
