Learner-Centered Instruction
The prekindergarten program builds upon a safe and nurturing environment that promotes growth in all areas of physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of young children. Children learn best by being actively involved in learning experiences. The prekindergarten environment is designed to provide instructional activities to meet the individual needs of students and stimulate learning in all developmental areas. The prekindergarten environment is planned to support the needs of a wide range of learners--with opportunities for all students to reach each child's highest potential while respecting the needs and interests of the other students. Teachers continuously monitor and assess student learning in order to provide sequential instruction to accommodate each child's growth. Students are provided opportunities to work individually as well as in large and small groups. Learner-Centered Assessment In prekindergarten, students are observed as they are involved in daily activities. Assessment occurs as they interact with material and other children. A report card to parents is provided four times during the school year to further communicate and document specific learning progress. |
