Instructional Technology is responsible for overseeing and facilitating the use of educational technology in the schools. The department currently has a director, eleven instructional technology facilitators, one New Media Producer, a secretary and a clerk.

The IT department supports teachers through the campus Instructional Technology Resource Contacts (ITRCs), the Campus Technology Cadre and the District Educational Technology Advisory Committee (ETAC). Our job is to develop the capacity of teachers to work with technology within the curriculum to improve teaching and learning.

In AISD we believe that "all students must have regular opportunities to use technology to develop skills that encourage personal productivity, creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration in the classroom and in daily life." From the National Educational Technology Standards (NETS) for students.

• Works with content area staff to integrate technology in instruction
• Understands the technology applications TEKS and the Principles of Learning and works with teachers to implement them into the content and curriculum
• Actively seeks and helps develop grants and community partnerships that benefit Austin ISD students, teachers, and community
• Coordinates classroom technology rollouts
• Explores and evaluates emerging educational technologies
• Helps teachers italicize online resources
• Facilitate the use of electronic systems in AISD that are used by teachers and students
• Helps develop safe and ethical habits of Digital Citizenship

Ultimately, the end-result of these efforts is to foster student achievement through the implementation of technology in collaborative, student-centered classroom environments.
