The AISD curriculum promotes high expectations for student achievement.  AISD standards-based curriculum is written using the Understanding by Design (UbD) framework designed by Jay McTighe and Grant Wiggins (Expanded 2nd Edition, 2005).

Curriculum Development

The Curriculum Department collaborates with district teachers to develop the district’s curriculum guides. These curriculum guides include the Yearly Itineraries (YI) and Curriculum Road Maps (CRM).

Yearly Itineraries provide a yearly scope and sequence “at-a-glance." While Curriculum Road Maps clearly define what students should know and be able to do. The following components also included in the CRMs: key vocabulary (English and Spanish for elementary), resources, performance tasks, and exemplar lessons.

All curriculum guides are annually reviewed and revised with the Curriculum Writers Cadre (CWC) in June.
